The breed

FCI CLASSIFICATION: :

- Group 5: Spitz and primitive type dogs.
- Section 7: Primitive type hunting dogs.
- Without working trial.

HISTORY: :

The Corsican dog "cursinu" has inhabited the island since the 16th century.
These primitive sheepdogs protected sheep, sheep pens and owners' homes.
On command, they chased and/or hunted quarries.
They were at times used as attack dogs.
Both its versatility and the fact that it has always lived on an island make this a peculiar dog. Today it is most often used in wild-boar hunting.

The name "cursinu" -which means Corsican dog or descendant of Corsican dog- is one real display of inventiveness on the part of the Corsicans. It conveys the number of bloodlines that have moulded the dog's current morphological characteristics.

TEMPERAMENT: :

These are local, rustic and lively dogs that enjoy hunting. They are suspicious and weary of strangers, and very attached to their masters. They adapt to their needs and become nice companions if owners deserve it.
Training them may be more demanding than other breeds.
Cursinus are dogs that require a master with personality who can make them exercise.

HEALTH: :

This breed doesn't have particular health issues.

DIET: :

It can be frugal. Cursinus can be fed on processed dog food.
